Ingredients:
For the Salisbury Steak:
- 1 lb ground beef,
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 onion,
- 1/3 cup panko bread crumbs
- 2 garlic cloves
- 1 Tbsp ketchup
- 1 ½ tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tsp mayonnaise
- 1 tsp sea salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 1 ½ tsp Italian seasoning
- 1 ½ tsp milk
- 2 tsp Dijon mustard
- 1 Tbsp olive oil,
For the Mushroom Gravy:
- 1/2 onion,
- 2 garlic cloves
- 1 Tbsp unsalted butter
- 8 oz brown mushrooms
- 2 Tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cup beef broth, + 1/2 cup water
- ½ tsp Worcestershire sauce
- ½ tsp Dijon mustard
- 2 tsp ketchup
- ¼ tsp sea salt
- â…› tsp ground black pepper
Instructions:
- Combine all of the ingredients for the beef patties in a mixing bowl (except the oil). Mix until thoroughly combined, then shape into four oval or round patties, flattening the center for even thickness.
- In a nonstick skillet, heat 1 tablespoon oil; once heated, add patties and fry until golden brown on both sides and fully done. Remove the burgers from the skillet and keep them warm by covering them.
- In the same skillet, sauté 12 onions (you can also slice the onion into thin slices, depending on your desire). When the onion begins to soften, add the garlic and butter and stir to combine.
- Add the mushrooms and cook, stirring constantly, until they are browned. To taste, season with salt and pepper.
- Combine all of the remaining gravy ingredients in a mixing bowl: 1 1/2 cups broth, 1/2 cup water, 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce, 1/2 teaspoon dijon mustard, 2 tablespoons ketchup, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 1/8 teaspoon pepper, and 2 tablespoons flour Pour the gravy over the mushrooms and simmer until it thickens.
- Return the patties to the pan and cover thoroughly with the gravy and mushrooms, cooking just until cooked through.
