Stuffed cabbage rolls

Beef and rice are stuffed into cabbage leaves in this recipe for stuffed cabbage rolls, which are then topped in a homemade tomato sauce and baked until soft. a traditional comfort food recipe that is delicious, filling, and simple to make.

Ingredients:

For the tomato sauce:

  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1/2 cup onion finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon garlic minced
  • 28-ounce can of crushed tomatoes
  • 15-ounce can of tomato sauce
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp red wine vinegar

For the cabbage rolls:

  • 1 pound of ground beef
  • 1 cup cooked rice
  • 1/2 cup onion finely chopped
  • 1 tsp garlic minced
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley leaves chopped,
  • 1 egg
  • 1 head cabbage
  • cooking spray

 

Instructions:

  1. Melt the butter in a big pot over medium heat for the tomato sauce. When the onion is transparent, add it and simmer for another 4-5 minutes.
  2. Cook the garlic for 30 seconds after adding it. Crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, salt, and pepper should all be added to the pot.
  3. Add the red wine vinegar and brown sugar after stirring. Simmer for a while.
  4. Cook for ten to fifteen minutes, stirring now and then.
  5. While the sauce is boiling, assemble the cabbage rolls. Boiling water in a large pot.
  6. Place the head of the cabbage in the pot of boiling water. Cook the cabbage for 3 to 5 minutes, or until the leaves are soft. Off the cabbage, remove 12 sizable leaves.
  7. In a bowl, mix the rice, onion, garlic, salt, pepper, egg, and 2 tablespoons of parsley. To the bowl, add 1/2 cup of tomato sauce. To blend, stir.
  8. Each cabbage leaf should be placed flat. The thick portion of the cabbage rib can be removed by cutting a V-shaped notch with a tiny knife.
  9. Place a log-shaped portion of the beef mixture, equal to 1/3 of a cup, in the center of each cabbage leaf. Wrap the beef mixture in the cabbage leaf. Repeat with the remaining pork and cabbage leaves.
  10. Set the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  11. Apply cooking spray to a pan. In the bottom of the baking dish, spread 1/2 of the tomato sauce. Put the cabbage rolls in the dish seam side down. Add the remaining sauce on top.
  12. Wrap with foil. Bake for 60 to 90 minutes, or until the meat is thoroughly cooked and the cabbage is soft.
  13. Serve after adding the final 2 tablespoons of parsley.
