Meat Pie Recipe

This recipe for pork pie is fantastic! It came from the mother of my husband. I think this is a French meat pie because she is French. Together, beef, pork, and potatoes are cooked with flavorful spices. It’s tasty and really simple to make as well.

Although fresh is preferred, you can prepare it ahead of time and freeze or refrigerate it. either by itself or with beef gravy, serve the pie.

Prep Time: 25 minutes
Cook Time: 25 minutes
Total Time: 50 minutes

  • 1 medium potato
  • ½ pound ground beef
  • ½ pound ground pork
  • ½ cup chopped onion
  • ⅓ clove garlic, chopped
  • ½ tsp mustard powder
  • ½ tsp dried thyme
  • ¼ tsp dried sage
  • ¼ tsp ground cloves
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp ground black pepper
  • ¼ cup water
  • 1 package of refrigerated pie crusts (15 ounces)

  1. Set the oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).
  2. Put the potatoes in a pot and add water to cover. When soft, bring to a boil, and then cook. Mash, then drain and leave aside.
  3. Pork and beef mashed up into a big pot during this time. Add the onion, the garlic, the mustard powder, the thyme, the sage, the cloves, salt, and pepper. Stir in the water. Cook the beef in a uniform layer of browning while stirring over medium heat.
  4. Add mashed potato after taking the pan off the heat.
  5. Fill a pie plate with one pie crust. Cover with the remaining pie crust after adding the meat filling. Trim any extra dough, then use a fork’s tines to seal the edges by crimping them. To release steam, stab a knife a few times into the top crust. Wrap aluminum foil around the crust’s edges.
  6. About 25 minutes into baking in the preheated oven, the crust should be golden.
