Ground Beef Stroganoff is a meal that has been a long-time favorite in our home. It’s a gravy made with ground beef and onions served over egg noodles and flavored with sour cream. It’s sweet and tangy, flavorful and creamy, cheap and easy.
Cook Time: 30 minutes
Total Time: 30 minutes
Ingredients:
- 1 pound of ground beef
- egg noodles
- ½ cup yellow onion
- 1 tsp garlic
- 3 Tbsp salted butter
- 3 Tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ cups beef broth
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 can cream of mushroom soup
- salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions:
- Bring a pot of water to a boil, then start cooking the egg noodles according to the package guidelines.
- Brown the ground beef, onions, and garlic in a large skillet over medium-high heat until well cooked.
- To remove extra fat from the pan, drain the ground beef. Return the pan to the stove over medium heat (but don’t add the ground meat yet.)
- Toss in the butter and let it melt in the pan. After that, add flour to the pan, mix it in, and let it absorb the butter.
- Turn the heat to high and whisk rapidly to eliminate any lumps before adding the beef broth and bringing it to a boil for 2-3 minutes, or until it thickens slightly.
- Reduce the heat to medium and mix in the sour cream and mushroom soup. Stir until the mixture is completely combined.
- Season with salt and pepper. Continue to taste the mixture until it is seasoned to your liking. If it becomes too thick, thin it out with a little more beef broth.
- Return the ground beef to the mixture until it has warmed. Over egg noodles, serve.
