One of America’s top regional burgers is the Oklahoma onion burger. This traditional diner food consists of a hamburger patty that has had a ton of chopped onions mashed into it. To make one incredible patty of oniony deliciousness, the onions soak into the beef as it cooks and the meat juices coat the onions!
These fried onion burgers go great with our special burger sauce ingredient. It’s delicious as a dip for your fries as well. With home fries and grilled corn on the cob, we enjoy serving this Oklahoma-fried onion burger dish.

Ingredients:
For the hamburger:
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 yellow onion sliced
- American cheese sliced
- 1/2 tbsp vegetable oil
- salt and pepper
- bacon cooked
- pickle chips optional
- hamburger buns
For the secret ingredients burger sauce:
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 1/8 cup ketchup
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- 1/8 tsp ground red pepper
- 1/8 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp yellow mustard
- 1/2 tsp dill pickle juice
- 1/8 tsp ground black pepper
Instructions:
- Combine all of the ingredients for the secret ingredient burger sauce in a small bowl. Use a little whisk to blend. Place aside.
- Onions and vegetable oil should be added to a large skillet set over medium heat. Stir the oil into the onions.
- 4 equal portions of ground beef should be divided. Using your hands, flatten each component into a patty after rolling it into a ball. Salt and pepper the outsides of the hamburger patties.
- Put the onions on top of the hamburger patties. Your spatula should be pressed down to combine the hamburgers and onions.
- Cook until one side is browned. Turn over and continue cooking until the other side is browned.
- Place the beef and onions on the bottom buns after removing them from the griddle.
- American cheese should be added, and the top bun should be covered in the burger sauce’s secret ingredient. if using, add pickles and optional bacon.
- Dispense and savor!
